A little bundle of joy wasn't about to put on the brakes so mom could make it to the hospital in time, so a family van became a makeshift delivery room.
Lamar Oneal Pryor is just three days old, and he already has a story to tell. It all started early on the morning of Tuesday, March 19.
"I woke up around 3:45 in the morning to contractions," said Raven Pryor.
However, Baby Lamar was six days early. His mother and her mother thought his arrival would be a lot like ones they had seen before. So the family piled into the mini van and headed to the hospital, but this baby was clearly on his own schedule.
"Once we got in the car, [the contractions] were strong. They started to get a few minutes apart," Raven said. "[Then] I was like, 'Oh my god, I cannot wait. [He's] coming.'"
That's when her mother, Cynthia Pryor, took over.
"She told me to push. I was just listening to her. I was crying," said Raven.
"His head was coming out," Cynthia explained.
"We were still in the car. I thought I was dreaming," Raven said.
"Between Adams and Old Perch is when I believe he popped right on out. I looked over and saw him in his sack. I thought I was dreaming," said Ronnie Pryor, Raven's father.
"I popped it, and he just came out," said Cynthia. "I cleared his mouth out, and I got my cell phone, called 911."
Ronnie never stopped driving. The next thing they knew they were at the emergency room, and despite his dramatic arrival, little Lamar was just fine. He has his grandparents to thank for that.
"We were already close, but this has just shown me she really is a super mom," said Raven.
Cynthia and the family are looking forward to getting little Lamar's birth certificate because Cynthia's name will be listed as the person who delivered him, something that is very special.
