The trail is growing cold in the search for whoever murdered a retired DISD employee.
Gerry Canepa, 68, was found stabbed to death is his central Oak Cliff home on Monday.
A memorial is growing in the patio chair where Gerry Canepa used to sit.
Roses were his favorite flower. Neighbors say he would spend hours pruning the rosebushes on his walkway.
"The guy, he wouldn't hurt a flea, he was the nicest person, seemed to be such a gentle, easy-going guy, I couldn't believe it," said Canepa's former boss Julius White.
Julius White was Canepa's boss in DISD's IT Department.
Canepa learned software in the Navy. He then worked for Dallas ISD for 19 years before retiring in 2008.
"He had a real caring and concern for kids and really tried hard, put in extra hours when needed and would do whatever he could to help out," said Julius White.
He lived alone but sources tell FOX4 Canepa frequently had male visitors at his house.
Police told his neighbors his murder was not random because there was no sign of forced entry and no cries for help.
Gerry Canepa loved his dog, his red Camaro, and cycling. He had no known enemies according to his friend and former boss.
"I really think it was somebody out to find a person to murder," said Julius White.
Police took evidence including clothes and a sink from Canepa's home but haven't received the forensic results back yet.
They say they think he was targeted but don't have any suspects.
