Powerball players reach for the 'dream'

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Six digits could possibly change lives tonight.

Machines throughout the nation are buzzing as people are hoping and praying they've picked the Powerball's winning numbers. Some individuals let the machines pick their numbers, while others used a more scientific method… birthdays, today's date, the day the divorce was final.

The odds of winning are one in 175 million, but that didn't stop the Fraueholtz family from Iowa from buying a few tickets. While shopping along the Mag Mile the mom and her two daughters decided to purchase three tickets. "We let the machine do it," the Mrs. Fraueholtz claimed. When asked what they would do if they won, she said, "There are some charities that I would support. I would support my church for sure."

Neil Watson with the Nebraska lottery says the current estimated jackpot of $320 million seems to be holding strong. The lump-sum cash option is $198.3 million.

"I'd build my house in the Midwest, put some away for college and go out for a nice dinner," another hopeful player stated,

Lottery officials say the current jackpot is the sixth highest in history. No one has won the Powerball jackpot since early February.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Also, instead of standing in line to get your ticket, Illinois lottery officials have added Powerball tickets to their online sales.
