Arlington truck driver shot and killed in Tulsa

Posted: Updated:

A Papa John's truck driver from Arlington was shot and killed while unloading a shipment of pizza dough at a restaurant at about 6:00 a.m. Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Robert Horton, 53, had been a contract driver for Papa John's for seven years. He worked out of the Grand Prairie distribution center.

Horton and his co-worker had stopped at a Papa John's in Tulsa to unload the truck. The co-worker heard loud bangs. When he walked by the truck to see what happened, he saw Horton unconscious on the ground. His first thought was that Horton had suffered a heart attack.

Police say Horton had been shot twice. They believe the motive is robbery.

Police released a surveillance photo of what they believe to be a dark-colored Ford Escape that was driving around at the time of the shooting.

Family members are in shock. They say Horton, a loving grandfather of six, father of two and Army veteran, will be missed.

"Everyday he said he was so proud of our kids. He was proud of the kids, that they'd grown up and they're self-sufficient and we had the healthy grand-kids, you know he loved them all," said Lisa Horton, Robert's wife.

The two were planning a real wedding because they never had one. Now, Lisa and her family will be left planning a funeral.
