City approves rail yard expansion in Englewood

Residents of the Englewood neighborhood have lost a round in their fight against railroad expansion.

The Sun-Times says Norfolk Southern Railroad got city approval to buy 105 lots on the South Side for just over $1 million.

The railroad wants to expand its yard on the South Side, but residents say they're concerned about more pollution in their neighborhood.

The railroad has agreed to contribute $3 million to the city for transportation improvements and donate unused rail lines to be converted into bike trails.
