Good Friday: Tripp Halstead goes home

Posted: Updated:

Tripp Halstead finally went home on Friday, according to a video posted on his Facebook page.

The video shows Tripp's parents, Bill and Stacy, carry the 2-year-old boy into his grandparent's home in Jefferson. Family and friends greeted them with balloons and cake.

The Winder boy has garnered tremendous support on Facebook ever since he was injured in October. Tripp was critically hurt when a tree limb fell on him outside his Winder day care center.

Complications sent him to the intensive care unit with a dangerous bacterial infection and fever. Doctors at Scottish Rite finally gave the family the all-clear after the latest surgery.

"His last surgery was Thursday and that as long as he was stable, we could take him home so we decided the best place for him to be was home," said Tripp's aunt, Crystal Condon.

Tripp was in the hospital five months to the day, his aunt says. His parents, family and friends camped out next to Tripp's bed constantly.

His parents never left Tripp's side through a dozen surgeries.

"He's been through it, but he's such a little fighter. He's so strong and he wants to be here and with each surgery he fights more so we're looking for wonderful things coming up in the future with him," Condon said.

Tripp's Facebook page has more than 375,000 supporters.

"Such a strong little boy andwe know with all the support and encouragement and prayers that he's going todo wonderful things," Condon said.

For now, Tripp is staying at his grandparents' home. Condon says that the family is planning to move to a home specially-suited for Tripp's needs later this summer.

The Gwinnett Gladiators are holding a fundraiser for Tripp on Saturday. The team says $5 from each ticket sold online through this link will be donated to the Halstead family.
