Mansfield police say 23-year-old Jade Jiles was struck and killed in Mansfield by a suspected drunk driver.
On Saturday at 2:30 a.m., Jiles was walking her dog back to her home. The dog had run away earlier in the night. Jiles searched for the dog to get it back home before storms rolled through North Texas.
Jiles and her dog were hit by a car while walking home.
Officers found Jiles lying on the side of the road in the 1800 block of FM 1187.
Police arrested 44-year-old Philip Bryan Fugate of Rendon while he was walking away from the damaged vehicle.
Fugate is being held in the Mansfield Jail on suspicion of Intoxication Manslaughter with Vehicle and Failure to Stop and Render Aid.
Jiles leaves behind a 6-month-old son. Her dream was to become a teacher.
"Of course we want justice but at the same time you want to be able to forgive at some point. It's hard," said Rick Carson, Jade Jiles father.
