A driver is dead after driving in the wrong lane on Interstate 85 and Georgia Highway 316 for nearly seven miles.
A spokesperson for the Gwinnett County Police Departments tells FOX 5 News that they received a 911 call shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday saying that a vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85 just north of the DeKalb County line.
Gwinnett DUI Task Force units attempted to intercept the vehicle at several points, but police said they were unsuccessful due to the speed and reckless driving.
The driver continued driving the wrong way, getting on Georgia Highway 316 driving east in the westbound lanes. The driver eventually struck two guard rails and broke the vehicle into two pieces.
The driver died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.
Police could not immediately say if the man was drunk and are continuing to investigate the crash.
