D.A. murder has Kaufman Co. residents on edge

Posted: Updated:

A North Texas District Attorney's murder has many nearby residents on edge.

Kaufman County D.A. Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, were found shot to death Saturday in their home in an unincorporated area of Kaufman County.

Their murders come just two months after McLelland's Chief Prosecutor Mark Hasse was shot and killed outside the Kaufman County Courthouse.

Many people wonder who did it and worry something like this could happen again.

One woman says the crimes are a wake-up call for the community.

"It's a serious thing," Mary Akin, Kaufman resident, said. "We do need to be more careful in our community and more observant, and not just assume because we have a small, wonderful, country community that we're safe."
