"Diving Lady" lights up the Starlight Motel

Posted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -

A familiar face is back up in Mesa and on Tuesday night, the "Diving Lady" once again lit up the Starlight Motel.

The neon sign was ripped off the roof of the motel near Lindsay and Main by a storm more than two years ago.

About 7 p.m. Tuesday, the 50-year-old sign was re-lit for the first time since that storm. About 100 people were on-hand for the lighting.

The sign was originally posted to let people know the motel featured a swimming pool.

"Almost 80 feet high, and it is the last animated neon sign in the valley. The lady dives into a pool of cool blue neon water, and the water actually makes a splash," says Vic Linoff, president of the Mesa Historical Foundation.

She dives every 3 seconds, 20 times a minute.

This was made possible due to donations from the community. FOX 10's Anita Roman has more.
