March 27 Amber Alert for Dallas teen was a hoax

Posted: Updated:

An Amber Alert for a missing Dallas teenager last week turned out to be a hoax.

The teen who was supposedly kidnapped and his brother have been charged and arrested with making a false report.

Last Tuesday, March 26, Dallas police was told Aron Jones, 16, had been kidnapped.

As police investigated, they interviewed Jones' brother, Markevin. The 23-year-old said in an interview with police that Aron had been kidnapped and was in serious danger.

That information helped trigger an Amber Alert on March 27. The alert was canceled a day later when Aron Jones returned home unharmed.

Follow-up interviews with the brothers reveled the kidnapping was a hoax, and according to police, "created in an attempt to carry out a personal vendetta against one of the witnesses involved in the investigation."
