Man accused of selling fake One Direction tickets

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -

One Direction is one of the hottest groups in the entire world right now, and they are heading to metro Detroit this summer.  Fans are eager to get their hands on tickets to the group's sold out July concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

15-year-old friends Kylie and Alison found two tickets for the concert for sale on Craigslist.  The price?  $360.

Kylie's dad met the guy and made the deal with the girls' baby-sitting money.

"He had a good story to tell, that he bought the tickets and his boss gets them, and his boss has season tickets to the Pistons," he explained.  "There was some good reason to believe him, and so I gave him the $360 in cash."

He said he only had two tickets, but after the sale, we're told he continued to sell on Craigslist.

"We got home and Natalie was feeling really uncomfortable about the transaction, so she got online and said, 'I'm going to email this guy at Craigslist and see if he responds,'" Kylie's dad explained.  "She emailed from her email address, and he responded within minutes to say, yes, he had the tickets."

"Natalie said, 'I'd like to meet up and get them.  I'm excited about the show.'"

Only this time dad went with Clawson police and the ticket broker was busted.

"So Natalie set up to meet him the next day.  We got the police involved, and he ended up getting apprehended," the father said.

We're told there were no tickets, just worthless copies of fake tickets.

Police told the girls it is highly likely other metro Detroiters were burned by this same scam, and unless the victims check their tickets ahead of time, they won't know until the get to the show.

"I just thought it was so rude that he would want to do this to young girls that have been saving their money and really wanted to go and then finding out that they can't," said Kylie.

"My hope now is that through this story girls can check their tickets if they did buy them on Craigslist and they can see if they're fake," said Natalie.

The Palace recommends using brokers such as Ticketmaster.

The family learned that if you use a credit card, you have protection if someone tries to rip you off.

Police say if you want to use cash with Craigslist, complete the transaction in the lobby of a police station during business hours.
