Man still in coma after pedi cab crash in January

PHOENIX -

A devastating accident happened on Scottsdale Road during the week of the Fiesta Bowl when a driver hit a pedi cab, critically injuring two passengers inside.

One of those passengers is still in a Phoenix hospital.

It's been three months since a suspected drunk driver slammed into the pedi cab 21-year-old Cody Clark was a passenger in on Scottsdale Road.

It's been three months of anguish for his family as he battles to live.

"He's still in a coma. He's had several setbacks, he has swelling on his head, he still doesn't have a skull; his left side of skull has been removed," said Sandy Clanton.

A huge sports fan, Clark had traveled to Scottsdale from his home in Kansas with friends to watch Kansas State play in the Fiesta Bowl.

The accident happened Jan. 4, as the young men were being taken back to their hotel in the pedi cab.

As for her anger towards the alleged drunk driver who caused this:

"I need to focus on Cody. For the most part, I try not to think about that a lot," said Clanton.
Cody's Mom, a cosmetologist in Kansas has moved to Phoenix to be with her son, who is in Intensive Care at a valley hospital.

She stays at a hospital provided apartment, and says faith is keeping her going.

"I feel like God's provided a way for us, that's how I look at it. He's making sure everything's going to be okay now and I just have a lot of faith and I give most of my worries to him so we can get through this," said Clanton.

One of the toughest parts, she says, is not being able to talk to her son. She
says she, Cody and her two daughters were a close family.

"He grew up, basically, me being the single mom so he was kind of our little man. He took care of us did a lot of things for his sister, so they were pretty close," said Clanton.

Friends back in Kansas and strangers here in the valley have rallied to help Cody and his family.
