Ruckus at Coney Island in Roseville caught on video

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -

A late night snack turned into a smackdown.  It happened at the National Coney Island at 11 Mile and Gratiot in Roseville around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.

Carlos Evans said he spent the night in the hospital, and he and his buddies said they were enjoying a meal when they ended up in a heated exchange with a security guard, and then things got a little messy.

That is when witnesses say an employee hit one of Evans' buddies with the Please Be Seated sign and others stopped cooking and started kicking.  

Video shows Evans on the ground and two employees ganging up on another guy, and instead of stopping the fight, security appears to jump in.  The customer that was being punched said the guy on top of him patted him down and stole his wallet just before the security guard snatched him up and threw him out.

The video clearly shows the security guard dishing out high fives after the beatdown.

"It's very disturbing," said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin.

He said police were called to the scene, but no one wanted to talk.  However, the video posted on Facebook and YouTube says more than enough.

Plus, this may not be the first time.  A video marked St. Patty's Day 2012 shows another brawl allegedly inside the same Coney Island and employees right in the middle of it.

National Coney Island released a statement saying, in part, "We were made aware of this incident early yesterday and took immediate steps to address the matter.  We are diligently investigating what occurred and speaking with all employees who were on the site at the time.  Our company has been a part of the metro Detroit area for more than 45 years. Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our customers and employees."

It appears some of those employees could end up in hot water.

"We'll investigate it, and we'll try to get to the bottom of it and prosecute who started this," Berlin said.

Evans said he and his friends will file a criminal complaint with the police department Tuesday morning.  None of them wanted to talk to us on camera because they have hired attorneys, which means this fight could turn into a lawsuit.
