Robotic surgery investigation

MYFOXNY.COM -

The Food and Drug Administration is investigating a multi-armed robot named da Vinci used in nearly 400,000 surgeries last year.

The high-tech gadget is under scrutiny due to several reports of problems including several deaths linked with it and the high cost of using the robotic system.

"I think this is not necessarily bad news. I'm glad the FDA is looking into this. It's been around for 12 years. In the hands of experienced surgeon the technology makes sense and that results in better outcomes. When you choose robotic surgery you want to choose the right surgeon," said Dr. David Samadi, Vice Chairman of Urology, Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
