A strong storm system bringing powerful winds and heavy rain caused some damage across Georgia on Thursday.

In Rome, Ga., high winds apparently blew an air conditioning condenser from the roof of the Southern Pipe and Supply Company. Then, the roof itself was blown from the building.  Workers say the business has been around 35 years and has never experienced anything like that before.

"That's the only building in town that got hurt. Just our luck, I guess," said manager Kevin Belk of Southern Pipe and Supply.

There were no injuries as the business was closed at the time. Belk said that some water got into the showroom. Workers put some tarp to try and minimize the damage.

A spa next door to the piping company suffered no damage, which could indicate evidence that a microburst – a small concentrated downburst of wind – blew the roof off.

Despite the damage, Belk said that the business plans on being open on Friday.

In Lumpkin County, authorities say a tree fell near a home close to Pony Lake Road. Crews have been busy most of the night clearing debris and trying to restore power in the neighborhood.

They say strong winds also knocked down many tree limbs near Highway 60.

Over in Coweta County, storm storms brought large tree branches down.

Scott Jackson said that he heard a loud thump outside his home.

"Just boom, like somebody kicked the floor real hard and that's basically it," Jackson said.

No injuries were reported.

The line of storms hit Haralson County hard, knocking one home off of its foundation. A large tree in the front yard was also uprooted.
