ATLANTA -

Kroger stores in metro Atlanta announced they raised more $300,000 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the month of March, exceeding their goal for the annual fundraiser.

Each year, the company holds a Shamrocks Against Dystrophy fundraising campaign, which encourages customers to buy $1 or $15 shamrocks.  The money raised helps MDA send patients to summer camp, and provides comprehensive care, equipment and other services to those affected by 43 different forms of neuromuscular diseases.

Kroger's fundraising goal for this year's efforts was $275,000.   The company's Atlanta division has supported MDA for the last 13 years.
