Dallas police arrested capital murder suspect Tyrone Allen after an hours-long standoff at a Hamilton Park-area home following a car chase midday Monday.
Allen, 26, shot and injured one Dallas police officer during the chase. The police officer, Daniel Malouf, was shot once in the lower abdomen according to police. Malouf was wearing a protective vest and was released from the hospital just hours after being admitted.
Allen is also accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend 28-year-old Breshauna Jackson and her unborn child Monday morning. Jackson's sister said Allen was the father. The baby was due next month.
Police said Jackson screamed her attacker's name before she died.
Police said after Allen shot Jackson, he took them on a high speed, hour-long chase through Dallas, opening fire on officers and bystanders.
The chase began along 635 in Mesquite and then moved to I-30 westbound in Dallas. From there Allen moved north on Central Expressway and exited at Park Lane. The chase continued on side streets like Walnut Hill and Greenville Ave.
The chase ended in a residential area in the Hamilton Park neighborhood. Allen bailed out of the car on Galva Drive and entered a home, where he was barricaded for more than three hours.
After hours of trying to coax him out, police got in through the garage and dragged him out.
Police said they recovered a 9mm handgun from the driveway of the house.
Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet School, located in the area, was put on lockdown due to the chase/barricade situation. Parents were able to pick up their children when the school day ended around 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
