University Park police have arrested a Highland Park High School student for making a series of threats at the school.
The 16-year-old male student faces 17 counts of terroristic threats, a felony, according to UP police at an afternoon press conference. The charges are all related to electronic messages sent by the suspect.
Highland Park students, teachers and community members were notified of the arrest in a letter from the district.
"This is a very complicated case, and we appreciate the thorough work of law enforcement officials in tracking down these threats," HPISD Superintendent Dr. Dawson Orr said in the letter. "We know that this has been a stressful time for everyone involved, and we appreciate all the support we've received. The matter is now in the capable hands of the police and prosecutors."
