"The neighbors were calling saying they heard shots fired.  Our officers responded and when they got there they found a 17-year-old victim with gunshot wounds and a 74-year-old woman, who they took into
A teenager is shot and killed and police say his grandmother pulled the trigger.  We're told the teen was living with his grandparents in West Bloomfield, and this isn't the first time police have been called to the condo.

The mother of a teenager fatally shot by his grandmother in suburban Detroit says "justice was done" with a minimum 22-year prison sentence.
Jennifer Hoffman talked to reporters Thursday immediately after her mother Sandra Layne was sentenced in Pontiac for the death of 17-year-old Jonathan Hoffman.
Hoffman says she never would have had her mother care for Jonathan if she had seen "signs of evil." She says she doesn't believe any remorse expressed by the 75-year-old Layne.

Layne's grandson was living with her during his last year of high school in 2012. His parents lived in Arizona where their daughter had a brain tumor.

Jonathan Hoffman was shot six times, including twice in the back, last year in West Bloomfield Township. Layne says she shot him out of desperation during a physical altercation, but a jury rejected her claim of self-defense.

A 911 call reveals the 17-year-old being shot again while pleading for help.

Shackled and wearing her orange jail jumpsuit, the 75-year-old made one final plea, trying to explain what led to that fateful day.

Through the tears Layne said, "With the drug abuse and abandonment of his parents, her grandson, (17-year-old Jonathan) had changed, and after they began fighting on May 18th she feared for her life and had no choice but to shoot him, a decision she now regrets."

Moments after Layne was sentenced,  mother and daughter stared each other down and then Jennifer gave the thumbs up.

Hoffman saying about her mother Sandra, "I'm sorry I got stuck with a mother like that, I wish I could see signs of how evil she was or I would had never left my son with her."
