PHOENIX (AP) - Yuma police are recommending that prosecutors file four misdemeanor charges against state Sen. Don Shooter for an incident where he allegedly barged into his teenage grandson's classroom and confronted the teacher.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Leanne Worthen said Thursday the charges include assault, interference or disruption of an educational institution, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. The assault charge didn't involve actual contact but is being requested because the teacher was fearful.

Police reports show Shooter went to his grandson's charter school on March 22 and was told by the receptionist he could not see the teacher. Shooter reportedly ignored her and continued to the classroom and confronted the female teacher.

A statement Shooter has provided says the teacher harassed and bulled his grandson and he was trying to resolve the problem.
