Thousands gather to remember "The Voice of the NFL"

PLANO, Texas -

They packed into Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano on Saturday to celebrate the life of legendary sportscaster Pat Summerall.

Summerall was remembered as a humble, soft spoken friend, colleague, husband, father and grandfather.  He died Tuesday at the age of 82. As his long time broadcast partner, John Madden put it, "If there was ever a book written about good guys, he'd be the star of the book."

Summerall and Madden called some of the NFL's biggest games for 22 years.  Summerall's career began as a player in the NFL and graduated to play-by-play announcer for the NFL and other sporting events.

Others who spoke at his funeral talked about his battle and victory over alcohol abuse and in his later years, how his faith in God defined him.
