Tanker leaking ethanol after Reagan Tollway crash near DeKalb Co.

MAPLE PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Ethanol began leaking from a tanker hit during a three-vehicle crash on the Reagan Memorial Tollway, snarling traffic near far west suburban Maple Park Monday night.

The crash happened at 8:14 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the tollway between Shrader and Watson roads, State Police said in a release.

A passenger vehicle rear-ended another vehicle, causing the second car to spin to the left and hit a truck hauling a tanker, the release said.

The tanker began leaking ethanol, prompting police to shut all lanes of the expressway about two miles east of the border between Kane and DeKalb counties.

State Police could not immediately say whether anyone was hurt in the crash.

Traffic remains intermittently shut down in both directions as emergency crews continue to respond, police said.
