Ann Arbor theater company works on 'Shrek the Musical'

Posted: Updated:
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WJBK) -

When many school theater departments are struggling to stay alive, a high school theater company in Ann Arbor has the opportunity to workshop the Broadway show, 'Shrek,' before anyone else.

Students from all over Ann Arbor who are part of Pioneer Theater Guild are working on 'Shrek the Musical.'

Pioneer Theater Guild in Ann Arbor is one of two high school theater companies in the country to have the honor of workshopping this Broadway show.

The students are creating a workable show from the movie, and while it is a Broadway production, what they are creating has to be different. U of M theater graduate Alex Kip will direct the show.
The Pioneer Theater Guild's version of 'Shrek the Musical' runs April 27 - May 5.

Parents and teachers know school supplies don't come cheap. Many teachers even buy school supplies out-of-pocket. But now, a new Detroit company is doing more than selling school supplies - they're also giving back.
