A man has been sentenced to 25 years in jail for a series for three aggravated robberies along the Katy Trail last year.
Dominique Thornton was sentenced to 20 years on the first charge, 25 on the second and 25 on the third. The three sentences will run concurrently, so he will be in prison for 25 years.
Thornton testified on his own behalf during the punishment phase on Friday.
He admitted he was on the Katy Trail the weekend of May 12 and 13, when the three people were robbed at gunpoint on the popular path.
But Thornton said he didn't commit the robberies – instead, blaming his friend.
Thornton's mother and sister also took the stand, asking the jury for leniency, but his mother was upset at the verdict.
"The witnesses could not identify my son. The whole thing is crooked," Shenikwa Thornton said. "My son did not get a fair trial at all."
