Plane Debris Found Near Malibu Brush Fire

(CNS) Los Angeles County firefighters battling a roughly half-acre brush fire along Mulholland Highway near Malibu Creek State Park discovered an aircraft debris field in the midst of the burn area, prompting a search for possible victims.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. in heavy brush at Mulholland Highway at LasVirgenes Road, according to the county Fire Department. While putting out the fire,crews spotted debris along the hillside and discovered it was a crashed airplane.

Federal Aviation Administration officials had no immediate information on the crash.

Fire crews fanned out in the area searching for potential victims.

It was unclear if the downed airplane had any relation to another aircraft that made a hard landing shortly after 2 p.m. a few miles away on a Westlake Village golf course.
