1 Dead, 3 Injured In Crash That Sent Car Into Philly Church

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police say a 79-year-old man died after he was hit by a car while walking outside of a church Wednesday afternoon.

The man was hit while walking with a 77-year-old woman around 4:30 p.m. in the area of 18th and Spring Garden.

Police say a two-car crash sent one of the cars into the front of the church, where it struck the man.

The man was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5 p.m. The woman was also taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where police say she was reported to be in stable condition.

The drivers of both cars involved in the crash were also injured. Police say they were taken to Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition.

The car that crashed into the church caused minor damage to the building, police said.
