Vet's gets new Purple Heart after original is stolen

Posted: Updated:

A Korean War veteran who had his Purple Heart stolen has a replacement thanks to a friend and a local congressman.

Dayle Kruse, 85, stays fit by swimming 100 laps every day.

Thieves broke into his house during one of his workouts this past January and stole a watch, cash, collection of pocket knives and his Purple Heart.

A friend of Kruse's called Rep. Kenny Marchant, who in turn contacted the congressional district's liaison for military and veteran affairs.

Kruse now has a new Purple Heart thanks to their efforts. Kruse served two years in the Army and was wounded by shrapnel from a mortar round in Korea.
