Event promotes non-violence month

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Local entertainment luminaries gathered on Friday to promote non-violence.

Producers from the record, film, radio and TV industries met Friday at the Fairview Ballroom to promote the fact that the month of May has now been designated non-violence month.

The event was called "The Producer's Gala."

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed a proclamation designating the month of May, "Victory Over Violence" month.

Over the next 45 days, the group will be promoting non-violence across Georgia.

Organizers said it was fitting that the first event marking non-violence month paid tribute to Chris Kelly, one half of the duo Kris Kross.

Kelly, 34, died Wednesday night of an apparent drug overdose.

Event organizers said Kelly was a victim of violence against himself.
