Farmers Branch police arrest one man after a deadly accident Sunday morning. The fatal crash closed the northbound lanes of I-35E at Valley View Lane for several hours.
A 19-year-old is accused of driving drunk, killing a driver. Luis Palacios is being held at the Farmers Branch Jail. His arraignment is expected to take place Monday morning.
Witnesses tell police Palacios did try to help people involved in the crash before he took off. His teenage brother was also in the car, police say. He has not been charged.
"We've got a witness that reported after the impact the suspects got out of their vehicle, made an attempt to help the victim but the flames overtook the vehicle and they were pulled away and weren't able to get the victim out of the vehicle," said Sgt. Chad Taylor.
Police spokesman Sgt. Chad Taylor says one of the two vehicles involved in the crash burst into flames. The occupant of that vehicle died in the crash. Palacios and his brother ran from the scene. Police are still trying to determine who's responsible for the crash.
Sgt. Taylor says the Dallas Police helicopter was able to find them about a mile from the crash scene hiding in a field.
FOX4's James Rose spoke with Palacios' older sister who says she's horrified to learn someone had died in this crash and offers her thoughts and prayers to the victim's family.
There are two investigations going on simultaneously; the intoxication manslaughter charge and determining the cause of the crash.
The name of the dead person has not been released.
