Dallas homicide detectives have arrested Allen Wayne Yater for the murder of 80-year-old Harry Noble.
Police found Noble stabbed to death in his home on Deep Valley Drive Saturday morning. Dallas police spokesman Demarquis Black said detectives learned that Noble and Yater had an argument Friday over the quality of work Yater had done for Noble earlier in the week.
Detectives found Yater in a grocery store Saturday and arrested him for the murder.
Police documents indicate Yater told police he stole between $400 and $500 from Noble after slashing his throat and stabbing him. Yater also told police that he removed a surveillance recording system from the home after the murder.
Al Wiengarten lives across the street and has known the Noble family for 30 years.
Noble used to bring over warm meals after Wiengarten's wife died of cancer.
"I'm just going to miss him. He was a close friend. It was nice to have someone you could rely on across the street," said Al Wiengarten.
Two years ago, Noble's wife Bonnie developed brain cancer. Noble was her sole caregiver. The couple's four children and six grandchildren are left struggling to understand how anyone could hurt their beloved Papa.
Yater is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $525,000 bond.
