If there is a glitch while refilling your MetroCard using cash, the machine keeps the cash and gives you a receipt instead of filling the card with value. That's a potential headache for subway riders.
The MTA acknowledges that occasionally MetroCard machines will eat your card and give no value. We asked: "How often does it happen?"
The agency said that depending on the month there are 20,000 to 35,000 customer requests about MetroCards for everything from lost cards to malfunctioning card machines out of millions of transactions.
"MetroCard Customer Claims has been working to reduce the backlog in claims processing via productivity increases and additional staffing and overtime," said spokesman Kevin Ortiz. "The current backlog on claims range from 5-45 days, depending on the type and complexity of the claim."
