ATLANTA -

Investigators say the brother of a prominent Atlanta bishop was ambushed and killed in his own home overnight. Atlanta police believe a group of robbers is responsible, and they don't believe the crime was random.

The attack happened on Lowe Street. Police say they believe the victim was targeted, but they're not sure exactly why.

According to family members, the victim, identified as 46-year-old Jerrick Jackson,  returned home from dinner with his wife at around 1 a.m.  When they arrived back at the house, he was ambushed by several who got out of what may have been a black Mustang.  They say the suspects robbed the couple outside the house, and then forced them inside, where a fight broke out.

Police say Jackson was shot multiple times in the torso.  The gunmen took off in their vehicle, and the man was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's brother-in-law spoke with All News 106.7's Carolyn Ryan when he stopped by the family's house on Tuesday morning.  He said his sister and her husband had just picked up their daughter from college, and dropped her off at the house before going to dinner.  He said his sister and her daughter are both physically OK after the shooting, but it was obviously a traumatic experience for both of them.

Jackson's brother-in-law also said the suspects got away with his sister's purse.

Jackson is the brother of Gospel Tabernacle Cathedral founder Bishop Wiley Jackson.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the Atlanta Police Department.
