Ft. Worth mayor raises awareness for homeless program

Posted: Updated:

Fort Worth mayor Betsy Price was on the streets Tuesday to raise awareness about homelessness in the city.

Price was at Burnett Park holding up a sign with others on a street team getting the attention of drivers headed into downtown during rush hour.

The signs were for Directions Home, a 10-year plan adopted in Ft. Worth in 2008 to reduce homelessness.

Instead of temporary shelters, the plan places homeless in permanent housing with case management services.

More than 1,200 Ft. Worth residents have been able to rebuild their lives through the program.
