A Cedar Hill middle school teacher has been arrested for an alleged sexual relationship with a student.
Marlena Mints, 31, was a teacher and coach at Bessie Coleman Middle School and faces a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with students.
Police said the alleged sexual assaults involving middle school boys happened at school and at her home.
The arrest warrant affidavit states another coach at the school was giving a student a ride home. The student began bragging about having sexual contact with the health teacher Marlena Mints.
The affidavit also states in January, Mints invited a 13-year-old male
student into the training room at the middle school. The student told
investigators he exposed himself for her to see. The student also told
detectives that he has been allowed to touch her inappropriately, on numerous
occasions, while spending time in her classroom in the presence of other
students who were also allowed to do the same.
Investigators also talked with another 8th grade student who says he went over to Coach Mints house during spring break, went to her room and had sexual contact with her.
One of the students, according to the affidavit, referred to himself as one of her favorites.
Civil Rights Activist Kyev Tatum has been asked by the parents of the
alleged victims to speak on their behalf.
The school district said it learned about the allegations on April 30th and put Mints on administrative leave the same day.
Tatum said he already heard from other parents of kids who are not named in the warrants but who say Mints had sexual contact with them too.
Cedar Hill ISD says it contacted the police and launched its own investigation.
The district says it conducted "all legally required background checks" and found nothing on Mints. She was hired in 2006 by Cedar Hill ISD.
Parents were informed last week of the allegations in a letter sent home with students.
