Graduation bittersweet for two sisters after deadly wreck

Posted: Updated:

Graduation ceremonies for two sisters at the University of Texas at Arlington are bittersweet after their two younger sisters were killed in a car wreck and their mother was hospitalized.

Rebekah and Susanna Karth are the middle children of nine brothers and sisters – and the entire family was set to attend graduation.

But last Saturday, Marianne Karth was on her way to Texas from the family's home in North Carolina when she crashed in Georgia.

Sister Annaleah, 17, died instantly in the crash. Another sister, 13-year-old Mary, died a few days later due to injuries sustained in the wreck.

Marianne is still hospitalized with severe injuries.

After some soul-searching, the two sisters decided to press ahead with graduation activities. Rebekah is also getting married to her college sweetheart.

UTA is organizing donations for the sisters and Rebekah has changed the wedding service to honor her younger sisters.

"It'll hurt. Probably never stop," said Rebekah. "But we know where they are, so we'll be okay, eventually."
