Arias trial makes prosecutor Juan Martinez a national celebrity

Posted: Updated:

Juan Martinez has gained a lot of popularity for his showmanship in the courtroom. For weeks -- he grilled Jodi Arias over her lies. He ultimately got the conviction he wanted.

Juan Martinez to Arias on the stand: "You either knew or you didn't, which one is it ma'am, make up your mind please."

His intolerant attitude and quick thinking made Juan Martinez a star in this case and today in Phoenix his supporters came out in full force. We even found a woman outside the courthouse holding up a sign saying "Juan Martinez for governor."

It wasn't long before Juan Martinez fans on Twitter took that thought a step further. One tweet said, "forget Juan Martinez for governor, I want him for president."

Juan: "Are you telling me that fabricating a text message is not a lie?"

His name and the hashtag #Juanliners have been trending on Twitter. You can see pages and pages of tweets including his name.

There's even a Juan Martinez copycat account.

When we first told you about the Juan Martinez support page on Facebook there were 11,000 likes. That was in March. Now, not even two months later, he has nearly 29,000.

Martinez doesn't run the page but today whoever does posted "guilty of first degree. Thank you." The post got nearly 9,000 likes and about 400 shares.

Comments came in from across the country. One Facebook user posted "thank you Mr. Martinez from Florida" -- more comments of gratitude came from Tennessee and Washington state.

Juan: "When did you know that he was dead, tell me that?"

A sure sign of celebrity status these days -- the Juan Martinez memes. This picture on social media says "keep calm on Juan on." Another says "WWJMD" -- what would Juan Martinez do.

During an exclusive interview with FOX 10's Troy Hayden, Jodi Arias acknowledged that she respected Martinez -- but that he "did shady" things in her case."

Throughout the trial, Martinez fans lined up for pictures and autographs, and he did give them in the past -- but he didn't give any today.
