A new study suggests more teens are dying while texting and reading message behind the wheel of a moving vehicle than from drinking and driving.

2,700 young people die each year from drinking and driving.

Those same researchres found that between Sept. 2010 and Dec. 2011, an estimated 49 percent of boys admitted texting while driving compared to 45 percent of girls.

Texting has growing in the last five years among teen drivers where drinking and driving has fallen off, according to the study.

"Fifty percent of high school students acknowledge texting while driving," Dr. Andrew Adesman, of the Cohen Children's Medical Center, told Newsday.
