Police: Kidnapping attempt reported near Canton church

Posted: Updated:

Police in Canton say they are looking for a suspect after a woman says someone attempted to kidnap her Thursday morning.

Investigators say the woman told them that she was walking along Reservoir Drive near the entrance of the First Baptist Church in Canton when a man approached her from a nearby wood line. She says the man threatened her to abduct her, and that he was armed with a pistol.

They say she immediately crossed the street, flagged down a passing car and called 911. The suspect fled on foot heading towards the Great Sky community.

The nearby FBC Church and its day school were put on lockdown as police conducted a search for the suspect. They did not find the man.

Police describe the suspect as a white male about 6-feet tall in his early 30s. He was last seen wearing a burgundy long sleeve shirt, a khaki cap, sunglasses, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Canton police at 770-720-4883.
