Craft beer consumers in Michigan finally have their hands on the blues - Beverage World's inaugural Craft Brewer of the Year Oskar Blues.

For the past decade, Colorado-based Oskar Blues Brewery has been brewing craft beer-in-a-can and attracting a following with its trend-setting concept.

According to Chad Melis, marketing director for the brewery, 2012 marked the first year the brewery could consider expanding to other markets. With 52 percent growth in the market, Oskar Blues' established its new Brevard, NC brewery to supplement distribution from the Colorado brewery.

"Michigan offers a craft beer community filled with loyal beer lovers," said Melis. "It's also a state that embraces a variety of hoppy beer styles, which means our selections will fit right in." Dale's Pale Ale, Deviant IPA, G'Knight Imperial Red IPA and the new seasonal GUBNA Imperial IPA all represent that hop-forward flavor profile embraced by beer fans across the Mitten state.

Bobby will discuss Oskar Blues beer, food pairings at Powers Distributing Craft Beer Expo on May 15 from 6-9 p.m. at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion. Tickets are $15.
