Dancing with the Smiths raises $1M for charity

DALLAS -

Dancing with the Smiths raised $1 million for charity in downtown Dallas Friday night.

Celebrities, athletes and socialites joined Cowboys Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith and his wife Pat for the event at the Omni Hotel.

The event raised money for Emmitt's charities, including Team 22. The organization provides scholarships, tutoring and summer camp opportunities for underserved kids.

"At the end of the day, this is for a good cause," Emmitt Smith said. "We let folks know what we're doing and they just say, count me in."

Some of the recipients even got to meet number 22 tonight and say 'Thank you' in person for what his organization has given them.

"I like doing a lot of community service so that helps a lot with helping people that don't have as much as me," Alexis McDaniel, a Team 22 member, said. "So I have to be grateful for what I have."
