A child was hit and killed by a school bus Monday morning in Parker County.
A Springtown ISD school bus hit fourth grader Haven Lee Norton as it pulled away from a pick up location on Hilltop Meadows Drive, just south of State Highway 199 and about 20 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said the bus driver did not see the 10-year-old boy approaching the bus as it began to leave the stop.
The boy "tripped, fell and was run over" by the bus, according to a statement from DPS, and died at the scene.
Springtown ISD superintendent Mike Kelley said some of Norton's classmates wept when he told them the boy had died.
The boy's family members said Norton enjoyed school, sports and riding horses.
The incident is under investigation, but it's not known at this point if a video camera was installed on the bus.
