On Monday night, fans and team leaders gathered at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis to unveil the chosen design for the new stadium that will become the new home of the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaking with FOX 9 before the event, Lester Bagley confirmed the new stadium will "definitely" have a "retractable feature."

Climate, geography, civic structures, technology shaped the design to create a uniquely Minnesotan structure that will have a $975 million budget.

In fact, those elements created a series of rules for the stadium. The very first rule was "Get the Snow Off the Roof," and it was met with laughter from locals who remember the collapse of the Metrodome all too well. That's why the designers plan to have a clear, hard-structure roof that also takes advantage of natural light.

An HKS spokesperson affirmed, "We think clear is the new retractable," with respect to the roof's design.

HKS is the same firm designed the Lucas Oil stadium and the stadium that hosts the Dallas Cowboys.

The lofted roof is also credited with being energy efficient, and the stadium will feature the largest pivoting glass doors in the world.

The stadium will also boast two of the largest, high-definition replay screens in the NFL, an announcement that drew cheers from those in the audience.

The skyway system will also be integrated into the new stadium, which was described by the designers as the most versatile event destination on the planet. The facility is expected to host soccer teams, destination concerts and high school tournaments.

The unveiling attracted some big names in local politics, including former Vice President Walter Mondale, Gov. Mark Dayton, Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak and Minneapolis City Councilman Don Samuelson.
