Dallas Stars fire head coach Glen Gulutzan

Posted: Updated:

Dallas Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan was fired Tuesday along with assistant coach Paul Jerrard.

It's the latest in a series of big off-season changes for the franchise, who jettisoned general manager Joe Nieuwendyk for new GM Jim Nill. Nill had worked for the Detroit Red Wings before joining Dallas a few weeks ago.

"I would like to thank Glen Gulutzan and Paul Jerrard for the work they provided to the Dallas organization over the past four seasons," said Nill in a statement. "They are both quality coaches and men, but we have decided to go in a different direction with our coaching staff and we wish them well in their next endeavors."

Gulutzan coached the Stars for two seasons and had a 66-57-9 record. Both seasons, however, ended with the team missing the Stanley Cup playoffs.
