Pharmaceutical delivery driver abducted, robbed in Dearborn Heights

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A driver delivering pharmaceuticals to a pharmacy at Arbor Lane Medical Village was robbed at gunpoint, thrown in a van and taken for a ride.

The gunmen tied him up, threw a bag over his head and drove to a nearby vacant lot. The robbers then ordered him out of the truck, took the pharmaceuticals, lit the van on fire and got away.

"Upon arrival here, the officer determined that there was more that had happened than just a kidnapping. There was also some type of robbery that was involved," said Sgt. Steve Popp.

"It looks like it had to do with some type of pharmaceutical pills."

The kidnapped driver ran to a nearby home and pleaded for help.

"A guy came banging on the door screaming, 'Help me!"' said Shantel Brown.  "I didn't know what was going on, so I looked out the window and I just thought that it was a homeless person or something.... I kept hearing noise, so mom told me call the police."

Brown said she later went outside and observed the van on fire.

There were no injuries physically to the driver, but according to the pharmaceutical company, this type of crime is happening more and more, maybe not the kidnapping part of it, but the product is a target.

No arrests have been made.
