Police in Hutchinson, Kan., have identified a woman who had roamed the town for several weeks as 52-year-old Theresa M. Thomas of Dallas.
The Hutchinson News reports that police identified Thomas after she was arrested for criminal trespass Monday outside a Burger King restaurant. Thomas, who had refused to talk and rebuffed all offers of help while roaming the town, had previously been ordered not to return to the property.
Hutchinson police Sgt. Eric Buller said Thomas arrived about a month ago by bus. She had communicated with others only with occasional notes and had been "walking around like she was lost."
Buller said Thomas had taken a vow of silence.
Thomas was being held in the Reno County jail after a judge entered a not guilty plea on her behalf after she refused to answer questions.
