The Byron Nelson golf tournament will leave Irving for a new south Dallas golf course in time for the 2019 edition of the tournament.
Dallas City Council members approved a 40-year lease with the non-profit entity set to run the new golf course. That approval locked the tournament into a 10 year deal with the city-owned course that will be built on 400 acres near Loop 12 and Interstate 45.
The Salesmanship Club hopes a new course will improve the caliber of players who come to the tournament. Bold faced names have stayed away from the Nelson in recent years.
The move will end a 30-plus year relationship between the Nelson and the TPC Four Seasons in Las Colinas.
