NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

An Internet celebrity known on Facebook and YouTube as "Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker" was arrested in connection with the killing of an elderly Clark, N.J., man.

Philadelphia police arrested Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, 24, Thursday at a bus terminal in Philadelphia, according to the Union County, N.J., Prosecutor's Office.

McGillvary went into a Starbucks for a cup of coffee.  The worker recognized him and called 911. McGillvary took off before police arrived but was tracked down at a nearby bus terminal.

Police suspect McGillvary in the murder of Joseph Galfy Jr., 73, a lawyer, in his home over the weekend.

"I am grateful for the overwhelming response and dedicated effort by the public and law enforcement that led to this arrest," said Union County Prosecutor Ted Romankow. "I believe that everyone is a little safer with this person off the streets."

McGillvary was charged with homicide. He will be processed in Philadelphia and brought to the Union County Jail in Elizabeth in the coming days, Romankow said. His bail was previously set at $3 million.

Earlier Thursday, Romankow said McGillvary met Galfy in Times Square on Saturday and went home with him.

Galfy was found dead in his home on Monday. Investigators believe McGillvary killed Galfy sometime on Sunday and then fled. Galfy died of blunt-force trauma, Romankow said.

"As we've learned in the past we know [McGillvary] has ability to use the back hand of a hatchet," Romankow said.

McGillvary is homeless but considers himself "homefree." McGillvary is also known as Kai Lawrence, Caleb Kai Lawrence and Kai Nicodemus.

McGillvary rose to fame in February in Fresno, Calif., after saving a woman by fighting off a 300 pound man using a hatchet he had in his backpack and then giving a local TV reporter an animated recounting of the incident.

Authorities believe that McGillvary relied on the generosity of strangers for food, lodging and transportation.

Police investigators are now looking into McGillvary's travels because they say there may be some unsolved murders in places where he has been.

Cops are asking anyone with information that could be helpful in the case to call (908) 654-TIPS (8477).

McGillvary appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show doing a review of Zero Dark Thirty as his fame grew in the days after the Fresno incident.
