What a RUSH: Limbaugh apparently listens to Fox 2

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit ditto heads rejoice.  Your leader is interested in news in Detroit, at least enough to qualify a report on a large Powerball jackpot as more proof that 'low-information outreach' is working.

The national conservative radio host on the Excellent in Broadcasting (EIB) network refers to a report by Fox 2's Roop Raj in this way:  "Our outreach to the low-information voters is showing signs of success."  (More information on how Limbaugh defines a 'low-information voter' is posted further down in this article.)

On Wednesday, during a report on Wednesday's Fox 2 News Morning show, Raj made reference to Limbaugh as a way to help viewers relate to wining a large sum of money if they should happen to win the Powerball drawing.   (Play the video in the player to hear it.)

HERE IS WHAT RAJ SAID: It's one of the largest jackpots in the history. If you took the cash option, it would be 292 million, a lot of money. But you spread that over the course of maybe 30 years, and it ends up being 12 million a year. Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, he actually makes $300 million a year. Rush Limbaugh, the talk show host, his net worth is $350 million a year. And so he actually makes closer to, you know, $30 million a year. So, you know, these are just some comparison, some numbers out there for you to think about.

After hearing Raj's clip, Limbaugh posted an article on his web site wondering why of all the people Raj could have used to relate to the size of the drawing, why did he choose him?   Not Brad Pitt.  Not Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dog).  Limbaugh surmises that Raj picked him because 'low information outreach' is a success.

So what are 'low-information voters?'

ACCORDING TO A MARCH 25TH POST  ON LIMBAUGH'S WEB SITE, 'LOW INFORMATION VOTERS' ARE DEFINED AS THE FOLLOWING:  Prisoners to the media, which has dumbed them down.  Low-information voters can be doctors.  Low-information voters can be scientists.  They can be among all walks of life.  It has nothing to do with IQ.  It has to do with what they don't know because of their media sources.  Low-information voters are clearly people that don't have all the information available to make a voting choice.  That's all they are.  And they're all over the place.  And most of them do vote Democrat.

An e-mail was sent to Limbaugh requesting further clarification of on the term 'low-information voter.'  We'll post his response if it is received.

Why did Roop Raj pick Limbaugh as a way to relate to winning a large Powerball jackpot?

RAJ: I've done dozens of stories on large lottery jackpots over the years.  This time the jackpot is worth more than $300 million, so I 'Googled' people "who are worth' more than $300-million.  The CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, was on the list, along with several baseball players and Rush Limbaugh.  The easy reference is always baseball players, so I went with Hastings and Limbaugh.  I just thought it was interesting.  It's a fun story Rush, relax."
