Posted: Updated:

A train struck and killed a man on the tracks near Main and Florence Streets Friday morning. Union Pacific Railroad called police around 7:40 a.m. to report the collision.

Casa Grande police say it was an empty Union Pacific train.

The victim was a man in his 30's who was sitting on the tracks. Even though the train operator honked the horn and pulled the brakes, he didn't move.

The train was traveling at least 50 mph and the man died on impact.

Police are investigating why he was on the tracks. His identity will be released once his next-of-kin is notified.
